Emanuel Allen May Sr.
August 8, 1947 - September 2, 2026
Emanuel Allen May Sr, age 79, of Raleigh departed this earthly life at Rex Hospital on September 2, 2026, after an extended battle with heart disease.
He was a native of rural Alamance County, the son of the late Roy Elwood May and Clara Smith May.
He had an interest in agriculture from an early age and attended NC State University where he was a proud member of the Farmhouse fraternity. After graduation he became a vocational high school teacher in Wake County teaching everything from horticulture and ag mechanics to wood shop and small engine repair. During and after his career he was very active with the Future Farmers of America and mentored many of his past students throughout his life.
EA as he was affectionately known, was not only a father and grandfather but also an avid hunter and fisherman. EA loved to tend his garden during the summers and enjoyed spending time at Kerr Lake with his Faulkner family. He was well known for cooking and preparing delicious meals for friends and neighbors and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in the community.
He was active in the North Carolina 4H and North Carolina Wild Foods Association for more than 50 years each. He was also involved in Elmwood, Campbell’s Creek and Lickskillet hunting clubs throughout the years targeting deer, bear, turkey, fish and waterfowl.
He was predeceased by his father, mother, brother Russell May, cousin JB Isley, and fraternity brother David Palmer.
He is survived by son, Allen May and wife Brittany, grandchildren Grissom, Walker, Callie and Maverick May. Brothers Fred May (Bernice), Robert May (Karen), sister-in-law Peggy May and nephews Robbie, Doug and Don May.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and palliative care team at Rex Hospital for the comfort, dignity and support they provided to Emanuel and his family.
The memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday September 8, 2026, at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home followed by visitation with the family. Come comfortable, your best NC State red or a camouflage accent would be a great tribute to Dad. A private burial will be held at St. Marks Church in Burlington, NC prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to: American Heart Association, St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or the North Carolina 4H Program.
