OBITUARY

MRS. MAGGIE VEST DIES YESTERDAY
Wife of Former General Superintendent at Wyanoke Dies Following Operation; Ill Long Time

Mrs. Maggie Ward Thompson Vest, 48, of Elgood, wife of P. L. Vest, former general superintendent of the Wyanoke Coal and Coke company died Thursday morning at 3:05 o'clock at Memorial Hospital from complications following an operation. She entered the hospital on September 6, but had been in ill health for a year. Mrs. Vest came to Mercer county 28 years ago as a bride from White Gate, Va. She was the daughter of Martin L. Thompson of White Gate. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church at Athens and a devoted wife and mother. She retained her membership in the Springton missionary society and was also a member of the Athens missionary society.

Mrs. Vest leaves her husband, one son G. Paul Vest of Schnectady, NY, who is employed by General Electric; Mrs. Helen (Jack) Williams, Arista; Ms. Gladys Vest, teacher at Bramwell; Agnes and Madge at home; her father Martin L. Thompson of White Gate, and a sister Mrs. J. C. Vest of White Gate. One son Roy Byrd Vest preceded her in death. Funeral service will be conducted at ten o'clock Saturday morning at the Athens Methodist Church. The body will lie in state at the Memorial Funeral Service Chapel until 11 o'clock this morning. Pallbearers who are to be assembled at the Athens Methodist Church at 09:45 o'clock Saturday are: D. S. Hunt Sr of Litmar, O. C. Taylor, Dott, Roy C. Pearman, Arista, H. G. Johnston, Hiawatha, Modoc McKenzie, Elgood and R. J. Rodgers of Matoaka. Burial will be made in the Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton. Ladies of the Athens and Springton missionary societies, Methodist Church, will serve as flower bearers.
