Charles Walter Stafford, age 87, of Staffordsville, died Monday, April 7, 1997 at his home.

He was the son of the late Kyle and Sadie Kirk Stafford and was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Wayne Stafford; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Jordan; and three brothers, Miles, Homer, and Hiram Stafford.

He was a member of Sheffey Memorial United Methodist Church of Staffordsville, was a 51 yr. member of the Eggleston Masonic Lodge #309 and a member of the Royal Arch Chapter of Pearisburg. He was retired from the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. with 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Vest Stafford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sharon Stafford, Fairfax, and Herbert and Marion Stafford, Cleveland, Tenn; a daughter and son-in-law Joyce Ann and Charlie Lyons, Dublin; a brother, Carl Stafford, Pearisburg; three sisters; Lucille Perdue and Myrtle Perdue of Pearisburg; and Ernestine Parcell, Rich Creek.; 11 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10 at the A. Vest and Sons Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Wayne Monroe and Rev. Leslie Shelton officiating.

Burial followed in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. A Masonic service was conducted by Eggleston Masonic Lodge #309 on Wednesday.
