Josephine Vest Melvin, 81, of the Mechanics burg Community, Bland, Va., passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004 at her home.
She was born April 29, 1923 at White Gate, Va. the daughter of the late John Covington and Julia Thompson Vest.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Elliott Melvin, three brothers, Hubert Sunday, James Jack and Luther Powell Vest and one sister, Wilma Ann Blackburn.
She was a member of Byrnes Chapel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David E. and Anita Melvin, Bland, John Dale and Lydia Melvin, Bland; two brothers, John Covington Vest, Jr., Maybrook, Va., Ross M. "Don" Vest, White Gate, Va.; three sisters, Mary M. Albert, White Gate, Va., Mildred V. Stafford, Dublin, Va., Sadie White, Pearisburg, Va.; three grandchildren, Jonathan C. Melvin and wife Tonya, Bland, Kathryn Louise Hernandez, Grand Prairie, Texas, Susan Marie Rivera, Dallas, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren, Guadabyse and Christina Sanchez, Ashley Gonzalez, Maria and Jovanna Mejia, Rigoberto and Enrique Rivera, Susan Reyes, Laura Ortega, Zachary Melvin, Victor, Eleana and Lydia Hernandez; two great-great-grandchildren, Alvara Reyes and Gustavo Ortega; special friends and care givers through the years of illness, Jane and Vinia Davis, Catherine McGuire, Crystal Blankenship, Tania Emerson, Bonnie Cregar Hope and Sandra Melvin, Charlotte Wright and one beloved little dog, Barney.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Sunday at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, with Pastor Jim Conley and Pastor Rick Beam officiating.
