Obituary Online notes for Ruth Juanita TROENDLY
Ruth Troendly Pollard, 94, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Village of Brookwood in the presence of her loving family. Ruth was born on June 18, 1920, to Edna Motley and John Troendly in Hollister, Idaho, where she was raised on a ranch.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Charlotte, Mary, Edith, Carol, and Nancy, and is survived by a brother-in-law, Donald Huckaby of Grass Valley, California, and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth graduated from Jerome High School and attended The University of Idaho. She worked in the State Office of the Department of Agriculture in Boise, Idaho. While living there, she got her pilot's license.

Ruth married Harold Calloway Pollard Jr., Jan. 18, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, where Calloway was stationed as a Captain in the Army Air Force. After the war they returned to Calloway's hometown of Burlington, N.C., where they lived on Aycock Avenue until his death in 2001.

Ruth was a wonderful wife to Calloway, and a special mother to her three children, Gayle Pollard Watson of Burlington, Harold Calloway Pollard III (Louise) of Winston-Salem, and Scott Troendly Pollard (Pat) of Charlotte. She was a proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Tucker Troendly Pollard Petree (Chip), Elizabeth Pollard Welch (Rob), and Nell Pollard Johnson (Soren). She was the great-grandmother to Jane, Robert, and Harold Welch; Louise and Thor Johnson; and Henry Petree, all of whom survive her.

Ruth was an active member of her community and was a member of the First Christian United Church of Christ and Church Women United. She served as a Deacon, President of Women's Fellowship, taught Sunday School, and was granted the Certificate of Life Membership to Church Women of the Southern Conference, United Church of Christ. She was a charter and honorary member of the Alamance Country Club, the Ladies Golf Association, the Goose and Gander Social Club, a member of the Service League, and a member of the Century Book Club.
She loved golf and enjoyed a wide variety of physical activities until very recently when her health no longer allowed her to do so.

Ruth was loved by her family and so many friends in the community, all of whom will miss her energy, independence, and comforting smile.
