Obituary Online notes for Dr. Harold Calloway POLLARD III
Dr. Harold Calloway Pollard, III, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2017, surrounded by his family. Dr. Pollard was born in Burlington, NC, on January 12, 1948. He graduated from Williams High School and went on to UNC-Chapel Hill as a Morehead Scholar and member of the 1966 Tar Heel freshman basketball team. He was married to Louise Brock Pollard on December 23, 1970. He completed medical school and residency in Chapel Hill. In 1978 Dr. Pollard moved to Winston-Salem where he was a beloved ObGyn for almost 40 years at Lyndhurst Gynecologic Associates. He served in countless volunteer roles for organizations he loved dearly, including the American College of ObGyn, the NC ObGyn Society, the UNC Medical Alumni Association, the UNC ObGyn Ross Society, the Novant Medical Center Foundation, the Flow Motors Invitational, the Davis Cup, the Winston-Salem Open, and the NC Tennis Foundation. One of his passions was coaching YMCA basketball for his children and grandchildren, and he was present on the sidelines of all of their games. He was a devout member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was a true child of God.
Dr. Pollard, affectionately called “Rock”, is preceded in death by his parents, Calloway and Ruth Pollard. Rock is survived by his wife Louise and three daughters Tucker Petree (Chip), Elizabeth Welch (Rob), and Nell Johnson (Soren); his siblings Gayle Watson and Scott Pollard (Pat); his ten grandchildren Henry, Jane, Louise, Robert, Thor, Harold, Walter, George, Scott, and Betsy; his sister-in-law Betty Whitaker (John); his niece and nephew Libby Kelly (Jonathan) and John Whitaker, III; his great nieces and nephews Amory, Lila, Eve, Bo and Whit; his wonderful Lyndhurst family; and his dear friends.
Rock had amazing enthusiasm, optimism, and energy in life. His life leaves his family and friends with so much to celebrate, and his death leaves so much to mourn. A private graveside service will be held for the family, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday November 11 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W 5th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 at 10am, followed by a visitation at Old Town Club, 2875 Old Town Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
