Jerry Thomas Saunders, 83, of Roanoke passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at his home. He was born on November 29, 1935 in the state of Virginia to Obel Arthur & Hazel Adams Saunders. Jerry retired from the Double Envelope Corporation after many years of service. He loved to golf and was a regular at Brookside Par 3 Golf Course. Jerry thought of his coworkers and golfing buddies as family and enjoyed spending time with them. In his younger years, Jerry loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was a member of the Muskie Club.
Jerry is survived by his son, David L. Saunders; his brothers, Ken Saunders (Rosanne) of Arizona and Bill Saunders of Troutville; his sister, Anita Hurley of Vinton; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Oakey's North Chapel. The funeral service will be conducted at noon on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the funeral home with Pastor Bruce Gregory officiating. Burial to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
