Obituary Online notes for Earl Morris SAUNDERS III
EARL M. SAUNDERS III, 71, of rural Decatur, died on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, 10:15 a.m., at the V.A. Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Born on July 1, 1939, in Christians burg, Va., he was the son of Earl M. Saunders Jr. and Clara A. (Sowers) Saunders.

He married Judith D. (Morlan) Saunders on Oct. 21, 1961; she preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2007.

He served his country in the United States Army with the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment "The Blackhorse". He was a member of American Legion Post 43, The Blackhorse Association, Selective Service Committee, the Moose Lodge, Nipsco Club, and the Grievance Committee Local 12775 Steelworkers.

Surviving is his mother, Clara Saunders of Radford, Va.; two sons, Scott E. (Susan) Saunders of Indianapolis and David L. Saunders of Decatur; two daughters, Lynn (Barney) Rickord of Decatur and Laurie (Dave) Miller of Waterloo; three sisters, Doris (Jack) Gillespie of Radford, Va., Patricia (Danny) Bishop of Christiansburg, Va. and Sue (Rob) Sherwood of Pulaski, Va.; and 11 grandchildren.

He is also preceded in death by his father, Earl; and granddaughter, Stefanie Rickord.

Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at at Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home, Decatur. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at the funeral home.
