Born August 2, 1917 in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late James David Saunders and Gracie Hall Saunders.
He was an employee of Radford Arsenal for 32 years.
He is survived by his wife, Maudeleen Manuel Saunders, one son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas Edwin Saunders and Barbara P. Saunders of Richmond; one granddaughter, Susan Saunders of Atlanta, Ga.; one grandson, Nicholas Edwin Saunders, Jr. of Roanoke; and a special niece and family, Sylvia Saunders Smith of Pulaski.
