Joseph E. Gonzalez , (Joe), 73, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, June 29, 2001 after a lengthy illness.

He was retired from the Norfolk and Western Railways East End Shops and was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Mickey Saunders Gonzalez.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Jo Ann G. Allen of Roanoke, Sherrie and Jay Tunstall of Stewartsville; grandchildren, Karey and Traver Tunstall; sisters and brothers-in-law, Celia and George Conard of Huntington, W.Va., Emelia and Jerry C. White of Lynchburg; brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Sandy Gonzalez of Urbana, Ohio; nieces, Cindy Gonzalez, Lea Ann White; nephews, Mark Conard, Buck Conard, Joey White, Jerry White.

Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's South Chapel 10 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2001 with the Rev. C. Lawrence Dodson officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel Garden Mausoleum of Sherwood Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials be made to Cave Spring Rescue Squad. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel after 12 noon Sunday where the family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. A special thanks to a friend of over 60 years, Bill Houchins.
