Ronald Elwood Boone, 78, of Siler City died Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at UNC Hospitals.
He is survived by sister: Phyllis DeRita of Burlington; brother: Thurman "Pop" Boone of Burlington.

The funeral will be Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City. Burial will be in Camp Springs United Methodist Church, 9168 Cherry Grove Road, Reidsville, NC 27320 at 3:00 PM.
Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ronald Elwood "Ronnie" Boone
1941 - 2019

Ronald Elwood Boone, 78, of Siler City died Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at UNC Hospitals.
Mr. Boone was born in Caswell County on July 13, 1941 the son of Daniel Benjamin and Bessie (Paige) Boone. Ronnie was retired from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner after 30 years of service. Ronnie was a 1959 graduate of Anderson High School and a veteran of the US Navy. He was a faithful, active member of the First United Methodist Church Siler City, where he had served on numerous committees including the Disaster Relief Trailer, which he organized.

Ronnie was a 1966 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science as licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He had been employed with Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City and Bridges-Cameron, Sanford. He had worked with Doctors without Borders, DEMORT and FEMA which sent him to New York on 9-11-2001 to assist with disaster relief. Ronnie was a certified death investigator for 12 years.

He was a "jack of all trades", enjoyed wood working and refinishing wood pieces, camping, canoeing, playing horse shoes, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. His greatest joy came from being with his sweetheart, Rachel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lois Boone Chandler; brother Gene Boone.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 55 years: Rachel (Walker) Boone, daughters: Ronda Boone Peterson of Cary and Dana Boone Smith and husband, Phillip of Greensboro; son: Bryan E. Boone and wife, Elizabeth of Sanford; sister: Phyllis Boone DeRita of Burlington; brother: Thurman "Pop" Boone and wife, Janie of Burlington; grandchildren, Bennett and Lacey Peterson, Sarah and Anna Boone, Owen and Grant Smith.

The family will receive friends Friday, August 9, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral will be Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Carl Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM in Camp Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery, 9168 Cherry Grove Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P O Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344 or Habitat for Humanity.
