Ira Lee Somers, 91, went to be with the Lord Thursday January 13, 2022 at his home.
Graveside services will be conducted 3:00 P.M. Saturday January 15, 2022 in Greenview Cemetery. The family will see friends for a short while following the graveside service in the cemetery.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a son of the late Ira Lawrence and Lillie Mae "Dewey" Dawson Somers and was raised on a tobacco farm in the Williamsburg Community of Rockingham County.
He retired as a Department Manager at Glen Raven Mills in Altamahaw, NC.
He loved pitching horseshoes, working in his yard and garden, and watching all sports. He loved his children and grandchildren.
Ira was preceded in death by his wife Tommie Jane Martin Somers, sisters: Pearl S. Atwater, Olivia S. Elliott, and Shirley S. Hunt, and a brother: Gordon Somers.
Survivors include a daughter: Beverly S. Hemperly (Monroe) of Reidsville, a son: Michael Lee Somers (Jean) of Cramerton, NC, grandchildren: Jason Somers (Heather), Julie Ballard (Ryan), Alex Somers (Leah), great grandchildren: Madeline Somers, Hannah Somers, Olivia Ballard, Jacob Somers, Macie Ballard, and Audrey Somers, step grandchildren: Marc Durham, Kara Hemperly, and Christen Jones, step great grandchild: Victoria Jones. 470, Ira Lee Somers
