Herman Clifford Atwater
REIDSVILLE — Herman Clifford Atwater, 85, of 3819 Asbury Court at Twin Lakes Burlington, N.C., died Friday September 5, 2003, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, N.C.
Graveside services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday in Greenview Cemetery.
A native of Orange County, he was a son of the late Thomas Alfred and Isa Frances Fulmer Atwater and had lived most of his life in Reidsville, N.C. A founder of Atwater-Waynick Hosiery, he was a member of First Baptist Church and the Baracca Sunday school class, a member and past president of the Reidsville Rotary Club, former member of the Reidsville City Council, and had served on the Salvation Army Board of Directors. A member of the Men’s Garden Club, he was a former member of the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce, and was a member and former chairman of the Rockingham County Advisory Board of NCNB, which later became Bank of America.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Clifford "Tommy" Atwater and Herman Wayne Atwater.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Somers Atwater of the home; a brother, Matthew Atwater of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two sisters, Naomi Atwater Stone of Collinsville, Va. and Frances Atwater Williams of Chapel Hill, N.C.
The family will see friends from 5:00 till 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Citty Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
