Joel Paul Tate 


    BURLINGTON — Joel Paul Tate , 91, of Morningside Drive, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at UNC Hospitals.

He was the husband of the late Maggie Scott Tate  and the late Bessie H. Tate .

He was the son of the late Jacob William and Mattie Walker Tate . Paul  was a native of Alamance County, a member of Altamahaw Baptist Church, and retired from Copland Fabrics.

    Survivors include a stepson, Leo (Vera) Scott of Elon; two stepgrandchildren, two greatstepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Rose Clark. He was preceded in death by two wives; his parents; sisters, Annie T. Ward, Mary Carter, Lilly Cook; brothers, James Henry Tate , Jacob Tate , John Tate  and Javan Tate .

    The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Walter Jones. Interment will follow in Stony Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery.

    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., and at other times at the home of a niece, Nancy Penland, 3124 Burch Bridge Road, Burlington.

    Memorials may be made to Altamahaw Baptist Church, 3447 Altamahaw Church St., Elon, N.C. 27244.
