Joan Johnson Tate

March 7, 1933 ~ May 25, 2022 (age 89)


Joan Johnson Tate, age 89 of 2123 Coy St. of Burlington passed away on Wednesday 25th after a short illness at her home under Home HospiceCare. She was the wife of the late Jack Raymond Tate who passed in 2005.

Joan was born and raised in Burlington, working at Western Electric/Lucent Technology for 39 years. Known to her family as MeMaw, she enjoyed any activity that included family. She enjoyed singing with her brothers and sisters over the years in many church activities. A true Southern cook, everything was from scratch. She loved her iPad which gave her great enjoyment during the 2 years of Covid. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Aaron Daniel Tate and wife Beverly of Rock Hill, SC, David Wayne Tate of Pompano Beach, FL and Joey Allan Tate of Sicklerville, NJ. Four Grandchildren, Allan Tate, Michael Tate, Jeffrey Tate and wife Heather and Joshua Tate with wife Caitlin. Two Great Grandchildren, Lucy and Joshua Jr. Brother Jerry (Buck) Johnson and wife Betsy, Wesley Johnson and wife Joretta all of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Wonnie Johnson, brother Johnny Johnson, sisters Mildred Wall and Vicky Marks Brinkley.

Funeral services will be held at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 1. Visitation at 10:00 with service at 11:00 followed by burial at Alamance Memorial Park.
In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Hospice/Authora Care 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. 261
