Obituary Online notes for Helen MEREDITH
Mrs. Simmons was born August 4, 1925, in High Point, a daughter to Lee and Mattie Cheek Meredith. She was a graduate of High Point High School, worked for the Department of Defense in Ohio during World War II and was associated with Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company for 30 years. Mrs. Simmons was a charter member of College Village United Methodist Church, currently Christ United Methodist Church, where she served on various committees including the administrative board. Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Bill Wood Sunday School class and was past president of the United Methodist Women where she received the life membership pin. She was past president of the American Business and Professional Women's Association and was a member of the Hospital Guild of High Point Regional Hospital. Helen was active in delivering for Mobile Meals and enjoyed square dancing.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
On April 21, 1946, she married William E. Simmons, Jr. who preceded her in death on April 18, 2004. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Kathy Meredith Coffey and a nephew, Rodney McCarter.
Surviving are her son, William E. (Bill) Simmons and wife, Liz of 1304 Ashley Ave.; a beloved granddaughter, Cynthia E. Simmons Messimore and her husband, Jason of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers-in-law, Andrew Simmons and Henry Hobson; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Simmons Carper.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 8, at Christ United Methodist Church with Dr. Perry S. Miller and Rev. Carol Carkin officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
