Research provides that parents were Maggie Jane Newman and James Alfred Wilkins who married about 1917 and had two children before divorcing in the 1920s.

From an article in the Greensboro Daily News, April 19, 1945: Pfc. James F. Wilkins, 20, of Mayodan, was killed in action in Germany March 23, according to an official message to his wife, the former Faye Hicks. Private Wilkins entered service July 25, 1944, and went overseas January 28, 1945. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, his mother, Mrs. Maggie Wilkins, of Mayodan, and his father, Alfred Wilkins, of Madison; one sister, Mrs. Henry Reese, of Mayodan.

The body was exhumed from it's European burial location and returned to the United States in 1948. Following is obituary from the Greensboro Daily News, May 17, 1948

MADISON, Dec 16 - The remains of Pfc. James R. Wilkins of Mayodan, who was killed in action in Germany on March 24, 1945, at the age of 20, are expected to arrive here Friday.

The body will remain at the Ray Funeral Home here until shortly before the service, which will be held at 2 p.m. sunday at the Mayodan Holiness Church. The Mayodan Post of Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct graveside rites at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Greensboro.

Private Wilkins, who was inducted June 27, 1944, and served in the 376th Infantry Division, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fay Hicks Wilkins of High Point; a daughter, Yvonne Wilkins of Mayodan; his mother Mrs. Maggie Wilkins of Mayodan; his father, Alfred Wilkins of Madison, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Reece, of Mayodan.
