Gibsonville – Alan Wade “Spanky” Jones, 62, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Alamance County on April 23, 1957 to the late James Henry Jones and Eunice Vestine Brown Jones and was the husband of 38 years to Sandy Hinton Jones of the home.

Spanky was a member of Brightwood Christian Church and worked as a concrete truck driver for 25 years.  He was a classic car guy entering various car shows over the years and winning 1st place in his class with his 1965 Chevy II Nova he affectionately called “Myrtle”.  He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle and brother.  Spanky and his wife played Santa and Mrs. Claus for many years at Graham Children’s Museum, Dr. Crisp Pediatric Dental Office, Lions Club and various rest homes which gave them much joy. 

He is survived by his wife Sandy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa Jones Rabon and Jerry Rabon, Morgan Jones Gilbertsen and Tom Gilbertsen; two grandchildren, Haley Danielle Rabon and Jake Douglas Rabon; nephews, Shane Jones (Tammy), Jamie Jones (April) and Kevin Jones (Grace); great nephews, Jackson, Mac and Carter Jones; aunt, Mary Bryant; sister-in-law, Elma-Ree Jones; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Cathy Hinton; nieces, Katie Hinton Carter, Emily Hinton; nephew, Hunter Hinton and great nephew, Cody Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dennis and Kenneth Jones; maternal and paternal grandparents and aunts and uncles.

A service to celebrate Spanky’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Brightwood Christian Church by Pastor Ricky Cox.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church and other times at the home. His family would like to invite all of his Classic Car Buddies to bring their classic cars and trucks as a tribute to Spanky.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brightwood Church Navejo Ministry, 300 Brightwood Church Rd., Gibsonville, NC 27249.
