Jimmy was the son of Martin Luther and Lillie Belle (Greer) Widener. He married Helen Marie Ferguson in 1945 and they were the parents of two children: Larry Eugene, and Daneal Marie.

HIGH POINT — Mr. Rhonda "Jimmy" Eugene Widener, 82 of High Point died Friday at High Point Regional Hospital. Born March 23, 1926 in Glade Springs, VA, Mr. Widener was a son of the late Martin Luther Widener and Lillie Belle Greer Widener.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army Air Corp as a tail gunner on board B-17s flying combat missions out of Italy.

Mr. Widener worked at Tomlinson Furniture and Kay Lynn Furniture and was well known throughout the furniture industry as a fine upholsterer. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Widener will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents Mr. Widener was preceded in death by a grandson Brandon Hawkins.

Mr. Widener is survived by his wife Helen Ferguson Widener of the home and two children, Larry Widener and his wife May of Cottage Grove Oregon and Daneal Hawkins and her husband Randy of High Point. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Alan Widener, Brian Widener, Miranda Hawkins, Gabrielle Hawkins, seven grandchildren and two sisters, Clara miller of Meadowview, VA and Alma Garrett of Orlando, FL.


Memorial services for Mr. Widener will be held 2 pm Tuesday in the Mausoleum Chapel at Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be given to the ICU Unit at high Point Regional Hospital, 601 N. Elm Street. High Point, NC 27262 Online condolences may be made at www.cumbyfuneral.com Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point.
