Frances Whitener Shealy, 87, of Cornelius, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017.
Mrs. Shealy was born in Troutman, North Carolina on November 4, 1929, the daughter of Deck Eugene and Ruth Irene Thomas Whitener. She was married to the late Joseph M. Shealy for 49 years. They raised their family in Rock Hill, SC and then retired to Myrtle Beach and later she relocated to Cornelius. For the last sixteen years she was a resident of Twin Oaks of Cornelius where she was active in the local community and her church.
She enjoyed gardening, her church involvement and spending time with family including playing with her great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Deck and Ruth Whitener, her brothers Gene and Johnny, and her sisters, Birdie and Betty.
Mrs. Shealy is survived by two of six siblings, Mabel Whitener Morrow of Huntersville, NC and Jim Whitener (Fran) of Mesa, AZ, her three children, Rick Shealy of Cross Hill, SC, Terry Shealy (Peggy) of York, SC, and Janis Shealy Emplit (Ray) of Charleston, South Carolina, grandchildren; Adam Shealy (Rae), Kristen Shealy Epps (Nathan), Nathalie Emplit, Evelyn Shealy Underwood (Jake), Jennifer Emplit, and Steven Shealy, and great grandchildren Peyton and Zoe Shealy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 12 at Community in Christ Lutheran Church in Cornelius. The family will receive friends at the church before the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the service, interment will be at New Perth ARP Church, 204 West Avenue E., Troutman, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Novant Health Hospice, 324 North McDowell Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
