Mrs. Maibelle Scoggins Whitaker, 93, a former resident of Gibsonville died Monday, December 8, 2008 in the High Point Regional Hospital.
A Service to Celebrate the Life of Maibelle will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Floral Garden Park Chapel Mausoleum in High Point conducted by her nephew Tommy Scoggins.
Maibelle was born in McLeansville June 18, 1915, a daughter of William Sydney and Cora Maxwell Scoggins. She grew up in Gibsonville where she graduated from Gibsonville High School where she was a member of the basketball team. She was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church.
She was married to Earl W. Whitaker from Burlington who preceded her in death on June 21, 1986. Maibelle was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gordon Lee Whitaker; her sisters, Gertrude Crumpton, Blanche Harvell, Lib Yow, Mazie Lowe, Annie Yow and her brother, Carl Scoggins.
Surviving are two sons, Donald Whitaker and his wife Ethel of Pleasant Garden, Neil Whitaker and his wife Linda of High Point; three grandchildren, Gordon Lee Whitaker Jr., and his wife Cindy of Raleigh, James "Jamie" Whitaker of High Rock Lake, Tanya Simmons and her husband Kent of High Point and a great granddaughter, Preston Lane Simmons.
