HIGH POINT - Mr. Gordon Lee Whitaker, 66, a resident of Linda Drive died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. Gordon was born September 12, 1941, in Mt. Olive, a son of Earl W. and Maibelle Scoggin Whitaker. He graduated from Wallace-Rose Hill High School and was selected to play in the Shrine Bowl and the East-West All Star Game, as well. Gordon followed in his father`s footsteps by serving as a police officer in Wallace, where his father was Chief of Police. He began his law enforcement career in 1961 in Wallace, and in 1964 he joined the High Point Police Dept. retiring in 2000. His love for law enforcement was evident. He continued to collect items of history of the department for preservation. Gordon was a dedicated public servant to the citizens of High Point and served proudly. He was a Shriner and member of the Oasis Temple. He attended Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church. Gordon was preceded in death by his father. On November 22, 1993, he was married to Pamela Hemric, who survives of the home. Interment with honors performed by the High Point Police Honor Guard will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.
