Florine Whitaker McKinney, 92, of Burlington went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2011 after a critical illness of 3 days.

She was born in Virginia to the late Condy W. and Gladys Truitt Whitaker and was married to the late James Manley McKinney, Sr.

She was a lifetime member of Shallow Ford Christian Church actively participating in several different roles at the church and most notably serving several years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Memorial Association, now known as the Cemetery Committee.

Mrs. McKinney retired from Carolina Biological Supply.

She is survived by her sons, Larry L. Ruby McAlister of Elon, and James M. Lita McKinney, Jr. of Florida; grandchildren, Connie McAlister Michael Trollinger, Jason Jessica McAlister, Cindy McKinney Jesse Atkinson, Crystal McKinney Kyle Ryan; great grandchildren, Eric Trollinger, Jasmine Ryan, Tyler Ryan and Daniel Williams; sisters, Nancy W. Baker of Elon, Joyce David Thomas of Haw River; and brothers, Homer Louise Whitaker of Burlington and John C. June Whitaker of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, infant twins, parents, and brothers, Earl, L.T., Ted and C.W. Whitaker.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Jim Owen with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the sons home, Larry McAlister, 2364 Gibsonville-Ossipee Rd., Elon.
