Robert "Bob" Theron McAlister
BURLINGTON — Robert "Bob" Theron McAlister , age 92, died on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C.
He was a native of Greenville, South Carolina and one of sixteen children.
He was the son of the late Dr. McDuffie McAlister and Lillie Ann Baker McAlister , and husband of the late Irene Tromble McAlister .
Bob retired as a Master Sargent after 22 years in the US Army. During his tours of duty Bob served during WW II in both the Pacific and European Theatres and during the Korean War.
Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time and was known as a superb dancer.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Larry L. McAlister and his wife, Ruby of Elon, Robert McAlister , Jr. and his wife, Mary of Savannah, Georgia and Michael McAlister of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Connie Trollinger, Jason and Jim McAlister ; great grandchildren, Eric Trollinger and Evan McAlister .
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Rev. Matthew Smith.
The 82nd Airborne Division will provide full military honors at the graveside.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory prior to the service and other
times at the home of Larry McAlister, 2364 Gibsonville-Ossipee Road, Elon, NC 27244.
Memorials may be made to Shallow Ford Christian Church Cemetery Fund; C/O Peggy Horne, 1879 Routh Road, Burlington, NC 27217.

Irene La Von McAlister was born to Roy W. Tromble and Jane "Millie" Howell on September 25, 1925 on a farm at Barnard, Kansas, and died March 14, 1998, at her home in rural Lincoln, Kansas, at the age of 73 years. She grew up on the family farm in the Prairie Grove neighborhood, attending Cottonwood school for the 8 years of Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. She attended Kansas Weslyan University one year then graduated with honors from Texas Western University with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1962 and New Mexico State University in Las Cruses where she received a Masters in C & I in 1984. She taught school in Texas and New Mexico for 16 years including two years at the Zuni Pueblo and three years in the Bureau of Indian Affairs School with the Navajo children.
During WW II she married Sergeant Robert McAlister and was an Army wife for 43 years. She lived with her family three years in Germany, 1947-49; and three years in Japan, 1952-54.
Two sons were born to this union, Robert Theron Jr. in 1944 and Michael David in 1950.
Irene was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star of Hot Springs, New Mexico, Delta Kappa Gamma of Western State and also Alpha Chi and Pi Delta Kappa, the National League of Penwomen (Artist member) Rio Grand Branch the New Mexico Water Color Society and the Serria Arts Society.
Irene is preceded in death by her father Roy W. Tromble in 1981, and a brother John Merrill Tromble in 1991.
She is survived by her mother Millie Tromble of Lincoln, her two sons Robert Theron McAlister Jr., of Savanna, Georgia, and Michael of Richmond, Virginia; brother: Rev. Gene and wife Evelyn Tromble, of Goodland, Kansas; sisters: Avis and husband Dr. Dane Bruster of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Elma Claire and husband Milton Steinbach of Clay Center, Kansas.

Florine Whitaker McKinney, 92, of Burlington went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 5, 2011 after a critical illness of 3 days.
She was born in Virginia to the late Condy W. and Gladys Truitt Whitaker and was married to the late James Manley McKinney, Sr.
She was a lifetime member of Shallow Ford Christian Church actively participating in several different roles at the church and most notably serving several years as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Memorial Association, now known as the Cemetery Committee.
Mrs. McKinney retired from Carolina Biological Supply.
She is survived by her sons, Larry L. Ruby McAlister of Elon, and James M. Lita McKinney, Jr. of Florida;
grandchildren, Connie McAlister Michael Trollinger, Jason Jessica McAlister, Cindy McKinney Jesse Atkinson, Crystal McKinney Kyle Ryan;
great grandchildren, Eric Trollinger, Jasmine Ryan, Tyler Ryan and Daniel Williams;
sisters, Nancy W. Baker of Elon, Joyce David Thomas of Haw River; and
brothers, Homer Louise Whitaker of Burlington and John C. June Whitaker of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant twins, parents, and brothers, Earl, L.T., Ted and C.W. Whitaker.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Shallow Ford Christian Church by Jim Owen with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the sons home, Larry McAlister, 2364 Gibsonville-Ossipee Rd., Elon.
