Billy Martin Whitaker

HIGH POINT Billy "Bill" Martin Whitaker, 86, died Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Westwood Health and Rehab Center.
He was born November 2, 1931, in Surry County and was the son of the late James Mart and Sarah Lou Whitaker.
He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. He previously worked at Alma Desk Company and later retired from Ralphs Frame Company in High Point. Bill enjoyed eating, cooking, camping, fishing, and especially spending time at Oak Hollow Lake Campground where he was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Oak Hollow."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, Bonnie, David and Joyce; and nine brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Letsie "Susie" Inman Whitaker, whom he married on August 9, 1991; three daughters, Kathryn Ward (Greg) and Audrey Miller (Carl), both of Trinity, and Hazel Vaughn (Ray) of Thomasville; two sisters, Betty Walker and Susie Norman; two brothers, Phil Whitaker and Same Whitaker; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service celebrating Bills life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Landmark Baptist Church with the Rev. Amos Mashburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 PM Saturday at the church prior to the service and at other times will be at the home.
