Rebecca “Mee Maw” Huffines Oakley, 94, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of 49 years to the late Charles Hugh Oakley, Sr.
Rebecca was of the Primitive Baptist faith and a homemaker.  She was very artistic using her talents to do acrylic painting of outdoor scenes and landscapes, She wrote poetry, played the piano, crocheted and quilted, making many quilts during her lifetime. Rebecca enjoyed growing flowers and she loved yellow roses and hydrangeas. She spent many happy hours watching birds and was an animal lover at heart. .
Rebecca is survived by her daughters, Shelia Higgins of the home and Lisa Routh and her husband, Joe of New Bern; her son, C.H. Oakley, Jr. and his wife, Barbara of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Kay (Matt) Ames, Kristine Oakley, Sharon (Jason) Burr, Rebecca (Gordon) Hicks, Brandy Brown, Sarah Ray, Carly (Chris) Presnell and Matthew Smith; great grandchildren, Michael Ames, Ashley Ames, Emily Ames, Savannah York, Gavin Nicholson, Miloh Brown, Garrett Smith and Jaxin Smith; two great great grandchildren and her brother, Tom Huffines and his wife, Jane of Greensboro and many fur babies. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Walter Everett and Lola Murray Huffines; son and daughter-in-law, Walter T. “Tim” Oakley and his wife, Irene, granddaughter, Patricia Johnson; sister, Louise Ellis and her brothers, Jack Huffines and Walter “Son” Everett Huffines, Jr.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 24, 2023 at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45am Thursday prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.
