Burlington- Carlton Eugene Cates, 86 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was of the Christian faith.

Carlton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a truck driver and farmer.

Carlton was an avid rabbit hunter and trapper.

Carlton was the husband of 50 years to Velma Warren Cates who survives.

He was born on December 16, 1933 to the late Charlie Jackson Cates and Willie Boone Cates.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Wilma Heath and Patrice Lamm.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy Hinshaw and Carla Starr and husband, Mitch; four grandchildren, Joseph Heath, Jessica Heath, Braxton Lamm and Wesley Kowano; and three great grandchildren.

He is also survived by a sister, Coleen Edgerton.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 2:00pm at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor James Black. The burial will follow at Long’s Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6pm on Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
