Obituary for Hassell Oakley
Edd Hassell Oakley, 89, of 2158 NC Highway 119 North, Leasburg, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 24, 2025, at his residence after a three month decline in health.
Hassell was born in Caswell County, NC on July 22, 1935, a son of the late Alonza Oakley and Lucille Rudd Oakley.
He had lived all of his life in Caswell County, NC where he worked as a Correctional Officer for the Blanch Department of Corrections. He was known at work as Deacon Oakley and he also was a farmer.
Hassell was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Head Usher and was over the Cemetery. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Association where he served on the Disaster Relief Team and was involved in mission field work overseas. Hassell was one of the original founding members of the Prospect Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
Hassell is survived by one daughter, Renee Scott (Wayne) of Mebane, NC, four grandchildren, Alisha Scott-Holt (Ryan), Phillip Daniels (Tonya), Dustin Scott, Erica LaCoe (Matt), seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Pat Clayton of Prospect Hill, NC, Lounell Talley (Dan) of Prospect Hill, NC, two brothers, Tom Oakley (Pat) of Prospect Hill, NC, Danny Oakley (Wanda) of Prospect Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Hassell was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Oakley on March 4, 2024, two daughters, Teresa Daniels and Lisa Lysan Oakley, one sister, Jeanette Tatum, two brothers, Haywood (Red) Oakley and Kenneth Oakley.
Funeral services for Hassell will be conducted at Beulah Baptist church, 1834 US Hwy 158 East, Yanceyville, NC on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Lancaster and Ken Childress officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to thank Latoya Richardson and Julissa Lea who are with Medi Home Health & Hospice and special friends Margaret Ann Williams and family for the loving care they provided to Hassell.
The family suggested that in lieu of flowers that memorial donation be made to the Leasburg Volunteer Fire Department, 5783 NC Hwy 119 North, Leasburg, NC 27291.
