D. Willard Phillippie
LIBERTY — Mr. D. Willard Phillippie, 96, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Helen Holden Phillippie and the late Agnes Irene Phillippie and son of Everette Phillippie and Cladie Shoffner Phillippie, both deceased.
Mr. Phillippie was the owner and operator of Phillippie TV and Appliance Store in Liberty. He was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kimesville where he served on numerous church committees and gave and installed the chimes at the church.
Willard loved his family very much. Survivors include a daughter, Ann Drake and husband Bob of Liberty; four grandchildren, Bobby Drake, John Drake, Lynette Taylor and Gwynn Simmons; eight great-grandchildren; Austin and Holden Drake, Tiffany and Tito Tucker, Lewis, Kyle and Kasey Drake and J.D. Taylor; four sisters, Lucy Culberson, Alice Marley, Marie Forbis and Brenda Allen; and brother, Glenn Phillippie.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Simmons; grandson, L.D. Simmons; son-in-law, Dale Simmons; sister, Fannie Marley; four brothers, Burn Phillippie, June Phillippie, Leonard Phillippie and Bobby Phillippie; and a stepmother, Dessie Smithy Phillippie.
The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at 3 p.m. by the Rev. Chuck Ireson with the family receiving friends from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
At other times, the family will be at the residence of Ann and Bob Drake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 4400 Alamance Church Road, Liberty, NC 27298 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
