ELON COLLEGE — Mrs. Alma Lee Fitts Gerringer, 89, of 2462 Gibsonville-Ossipee
Road, died at 4:56 a.m. Monday, March 1, 1999, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Mecklenburg County, Va., she was the wife of the late Mr. Pollard Milton
Gerringer, and the daughter of Mr. Nathaniel David Fitts and Mrs. Mollie Elizabeth Hite
Fitts. She was retired from Burlington In-dustries Williamsburg Plant, and was a member
of Bethlehem Christian Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Thressa “Pete” Hamlett, Mrs. Eva “Ruby”
McAlister and Mrs. Dazel Oakley, all of Elon College; one son, Mr. Nathaniel Bruce
“Bud” Gerringer of Elon College; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two
stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Mary F. Barham, Mrs. Effie Perkins and
Mrs. Mandy Boyd; four brothers, Mr. Elam Fitts, Mr. David Fitts, Mr. Rommie Fitts and
Mr. Wayne Fitts.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the
Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the
service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at
