Nathanial Bruce Gerringer

Nathanial Bruce Gerringer, 87, of Elon went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 29 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family. 

He was a native of Alamance County and was married over 65 years to Peggy Basham Gerringer, who survives.  He was the son of the late Pollard and Alma Gerringer. 

Bruce also known as “The Mater Man” was known for his famous garden and tomatoes.  He retired from Lorrilard Tobacco Company after 38 years of service.  He was a member and Deacon Emertus of Bethlehem Christian Church.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting with his friends and neighbors.  He was an avid fan of the Carolina Tarheels and the New York Yankees.   
                                                                             
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters Terry Scheetz (Todd) and Tina Butler (Jere); son, Timothy Gerringer (Paige); grandchildren, Torie Fields (Doug), Taylor Scheetz, Erin Parsons (Nick), Emily Bolton (Tyler), Trey Butler, Kelly Butler, Kristy Booker (Avery) and Karly Butler; great grandchildren, Lynnleigh Fields, Laney Fields, Brooks Bolton and Avery Parsons; sisters, Ruby McAlister (Larry) and Dazel Oakley.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Thressa (Pete) Gerringer Hamlett. 

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Bethlehem Christian Church in Elon by Rev. Todd Felkel, Rev. Matt Smith and Pastor Steve Regan.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:45 prior to the service at the church.  Immediately following the service, the family invites everyone back to the home for food and fellowship. 

The graveside will be held at a later date.  The service will also be livestreamed for anyone unable to make it to the service.
