OBITUARIES Coy Whitesell

SWEPSONVILLE — Mr. Coy Whitesell , 88, of 2566 Pinetop St., went peacefully to be with his Lord on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2005, at 2:40 p.m., at the Alamance Health Care Center.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Hilda Wood Whitesell , who survives, and the late Dorothy Bradshaw Whitesell .

He was the son of Mack Odell Whitesell  and Ozella Whitfield Whitesell , deceased.

He was employed at Virginia Mills for over 20 years and retired from Cannon Mills.

He was a member of Swepsonville Baptist Church, Salem Senior Citizens Club, a retired Swepsonville fireman, and the oldest citizen of the town of Swepsonville.

His other loves were playing baseball, going to Carolina Beach and watching the N.C. Tarheels play basketball. In his early days he belonged to several hunting clubs. He loved his beagles and ran them in field trials that won him many ribbons and trophies. He always had a twinkle in his eye, loved telling funny stories and he had a way about him that made people laugh. He was a very loving husband, daddy, and papaw. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and he loved them all very much.

Survivors other than his wife include three daughters, Carolyn Evans (Bill) of Burlington, Susan Green (Jerry) of Gibsonville, and Kathy Smith (Keevin) of High Point; two brothers, Mack Odell Whitesell  of Laguna Hills, Calif. and Vernon Whitesell  of Chesapeake, Va.; nine grandchildren, Stephanie H. Kunar, Wayne Hughbanks, Kari Smith, Kristy S. Mallard, Lisa W. Wagoner, Tammy W. Chappell, Pamela Y. Benson, Wendy Younger, James Younger; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by four stepdaughters, Dorcas "Dot" Bell of Denton, Carolyn Champion of Reidsville, Sylvia Gant of Greensboro, and Velinda Becraft of Pleasant Garden; four stepsons, Michael Wood  of Swepsonville, Joel Wood  of Adian, Michigan, Johnny Wood  of Titusville, Fla., and Timothy Wood  of Greensboro.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Coy Whitesell  Jr. and James D. "Jim" Whitesell ; one stepson, Gerald "Bud" Wood , (deceased 8/23/05); one sister, Isla Berrong; and two brothers, Melvin Whitesell  and Arnold Whitesell .

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Mauve Unit of Alamance Health Care Center for the love and kindness shown to our daddy while he was there.

The funeral will be on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham by the Rev. Bill Abrams, pastor of Swepsonville Baptist Church.

Burial will be in Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the residence or the home of Susan Green, 401 Meadow St., Gibsonville, N.C. 3, Coy Whitesell
