 WHITSETT - Bruce Alvin Andrews, 90, died peacefully in his Whitsett, NC home on October 8, 2016.
 
 He was the widower of Mary Frances. They shared 68 years of marriage together.
 
 Born in Greensboro, NC, he was the son of Clayton and Myrtle Andrews.
 
 Bruce was a World War II veteran, served with the 14th Armored Division, 3rd Army.
 
 He was wounded in 1945 and awarded the Purple Heart. He was employed as a transportation operator for many years and retired from Spartan Express.
 
 Bruce was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a devoted husband, loving and generous father.
 
 He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with friends and family and spending as much time as he could with his grandchildren.
 
 His hobbies included raising a family and caring for God’s creation through gardening.
 
 Bruce was an active and dedicated member of Springwood Presbyterian Church and was loved by many.
 
 He will be remembered as an avid Duke Blue Devils and New York Yankees fan, as well as a proud member of the American Legion where he regularly honored other war veterans of the past and present, displaying the discipline and patriotism he learned while in the Army.
 
 He is survived by his two sons, Brett and his wife Christine, and Scott and his wife Josie; his five grandchildren; Aaron, Christopher, McKenzie, McKailyn, and Jake; his brothers, Dean and Bob; and countless nieces and nephews.
 
 Family, friends and others whose lives Bruce touched are invited to Springwood Presbyterian Church in Burlington, NC on Friday, October 14, 2016 where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m.to 2 p.m. and the service will begin at 2 p.m. to reminisce in a celebration of life.
 
 Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
 
 Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Springwood Presbyterian Church (1422 Springwood Church Rd, Burlington, NC 27215).
 
 Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington is assisting the family.
