Charles Roy Wallace
ELON — Charles Roy Wallace, 73, of Elon, N.C. died unexpectedly on March 12, 2014, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Roy was born in Ossipee, N.C., on August 8, 1940, to Delia Ray Kernodle Wallace and Lawrence Craven Wallace, both deceased. He attended Elon College and served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne. He became president of Sunfl ower Carriers trucking company in York, Nebraska, and then president of HTL trucking company in Council Bluffs, Iowa. While in York, Roy was member and past president of the York Chamber of Commerce and was heavily active in the York County Development Corporation. He loved golf and was a member of the York Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors. He worked in the trucking industry until returning to North Carolina in 1998.
Survivors are his wife, Kathy Wood Wallace of Elon; son, Charles Alex of Arizona; daughter, Hope Kemp (Mark) of Burlington; stepdaughter, Amy Dmyterko (Mike) of Kansas; grandchildren, Rebekkah Kemp, David (Alicia) Kemp, Daniel Kemp, Rachael Kemp, Jacob Dmyterko, Faith Dmyterko, and Hope Dmyterko; two sisters, Barbara Somers and Iris Harris (David), both of Elon; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and good friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Craven Wallace (Emogene), of Burlington.
