Mrs. Mary Summers Shepherd
ELON — Mrs. Mary Summers Shepherd, 96, of The Oaks of Burlington and formerly of 7152 Sockwell Road died on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at Edgewood Place after two weeks of declining health.
She was born in Guilford County to the late George Andrew “Andy” Summers and the late Lelia Brown Summers. She was the wife of the late Thor Vaden Summers who died in 1980.
Mrs. Shepherd was a homemaker, member of Bethlehem Christian Church and the Ever Ready Sunday school class.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Jeff Hughes of Rockingham, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Nancy Shepherd of Elon and George “Frank” and Ola Mae Shepherd, Sr. of Greensboro; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Summers of Gibsonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and four brothers.
The funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Christian Church by Rev. Dave Gilbert. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the granddaughter’s home, Donna White, 7188-A Sockwell Rd., Elon. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Christian Church, 3625 Altamahaw Church Street, Elon, NC 27244.
