ELON — Donald Herbert Shepherd, 73, of 7188 Sockwell Road died Friday, August 29, 2003 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. He was a native of Guilford County and the son of the late Thor Vaden Shepherd and Mary Summers Shepherd.
He was the husband of Nancy Hall Shepherd for over 45 years.
Donald was a farmer in the community for most of his life. He served for over 40 years as a volunteer fireman with the Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; daughter and son-inlaw, Donna and Swanson White of Elon; son, Daniel R. Shepherd of the home; grandchildren, Ashley and Leann White, Christopher Birmingham; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Jeff Hughes of Rockingham; brother and sister-in-law, George "Frank" and Ola Mae Shepherd of Greensboro.
The funeral services will be held at Bethlehem Christian Church on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 2:00 PM by Rev. Dave Gilbert and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. Other times the family will be at the home of the daughter, 7188-A Sockwell Road, Elon, NC.
