The Rev. Thomas Daniel Sutton
PITTSBORO — The Rev. Thomas Daniel Sutton, 83, of No. 92 Blakes Drive, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after one year of failing health.
A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Mrs. Lorine Joyner Sutton, who survives, and the son of Mr. Onnie Barrett Sutton and Mrs. Mary Ida Payne Sutton, both deceased. He served as a minister for Leaksville, Newport and Mount Lebanon United Church of Christ for more than 23 years in Virginia. He served 16 years for the United Church of Christ in North Carolina. He was a member of Elon College Community United Church of Christ. He was a member of the United Church of Christ. Ministerial Association and former vice president of the Shanandoah United Church of Christ. Ministerial Association. He was a graduate of Elon College and pursued further education at Wake Forest University and Duke University.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs. Brenda White of Pittsboro and Mrs. Barbara Falcone of Raleigh; a son, Mr. Thomas Eugene Sutton of Salisbury; six sisters, Mrs. Lillie Brown of Gibsonville, Mrs. Marie Gerringer of Elon College, Mrs. Allene Warren of Burlington, Mrs. Opal Jones of Greensboro, Mrs. Doris Wilhote of Frankfort, Ky., and Mrs. Mary Lou Sizemore of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Mr. Lenneous Sutton of Burlington; two
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. O.B. Sutton and Mr. Garland Sutton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Arch Aitcheson, pastor of Elon College Community Church United Church of Christ., and Dr. J. Earl Danielly, former president of Elon College.
Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 this evening, and at other times at the home.
