BURLINGTON — Mrs. Blanche Somers Jefferies, 91, of 1209 Rockwood Avenue, Burlington died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at 5:55 p.m.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late James Carroll Jefferies and the daughter of James Ira Somers and Bertha Patterson Somers, both deceased. Blanche graduated from Burlington High School and attended Elon College. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian United Church of Christ where she was a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher and Girl Scout leader and active in various church activities. She was a volunteer with the Alamance County Bloodmobile and other charitable organizations.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra J. Stone and husband Stuart and Carolyn J. Stubblefield, all of Burlington; a granddaughter, Anna Stubblefield and her friend, Justin Smith of Winston-Salem; a stepgranddaughter, Jennifer S. Springer and husband David of Wilmington; two great-stepgrandsons, Brantley Springer and Eli Springer, both of Wilmington; a sister, Elsie S. Bolick of Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Betty S. Somers of Chapel Hill and Dorothy J. Woody of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna S. Sartin and a brother, Dr. J. Earl Somers.
The funeral service will be conducted at the First Christian United Church of Christ, 415 S. Church St., Burlington, N.C. 27215 on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Mark Pickett. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.

The family would like to thank the staff at Blakey Hall, Elon, N.C., the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, and her two special caregivers, Jacqueline Harvey and Dottie Hall.
