Mr. D. Earl Pardue Sr.

BURLINGTON — Mr. D. Earl Pardue Sr., 78, of 2401 Oakwood Drive, died at 3:47 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several years of failing health.

A native of Elkin, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Louise Somers Pardue, who survives, and the son of Mr. William Free Pardue and Mrs. Mamie Sue Burchette Pardue, both deceased.

He was an insurance executive with Somers-Pardue Insurance Agency and owner of Brightwood Farm.

He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was an active leader in the civic and business community and was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Ms. Mary Luanne “Lupy” Pardue of Midlothian, Va.; four sons, Mr. David Earl Pardue Jr. of Hilton Head, S.C., Mr. John Blake Pardue of Whitsett, Mr. Claude Galen Pardue of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Mr. Joseph Anthony Pardue of Burlington; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Mackie and Mrs. Bettie Hinson, both of Elkin; a brother, Mr. William F. Pardue Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; and six grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Front Street United Methodist Church by Dr. William C. Simpson Jr., senior pastor. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.

The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 5 to 7 this evening, and at other times at the home.
