Kathryn “Kitty” Somers Moore
WINSTON-SALEM — Kathryn “Kitty” Somers Moore went to her heavenly home Friday, Nov. 18, 2011. She was born in Burlington, N.C. Sept. 7, 1925.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude G. Somers “CG” and Lillie Miller Somers of Burlington; sister, Hilda Ewing; husband of 26 years Roy N. Moore Sr. and son, Roy Neal Moore Jr.
Kathryn attended Women’s College of Greensboro and Virginia Commonwealth College in Richmond, Va., majoring in interior design. Her career path was in the banking field and was the bookkeeper for her husband’s Real Estate Appraisal business. Kathryn was very gifted in gardening and woodcarving. Over a span of 30 years, she created more than 100 original and unique song birds, ducks, Christmas ornaments and some very interesting water birds including an egret, a life-size swan, pelican, puffin and seagulls. Kathryn was a very giving person who always thought of others and their needs. She volunteered her services for various organizations, including the Clothes Closet at her home church, Centenary Methodist. She was an avid member of the church Circle Group, Garden Club in Peace Haven Estates, and had a passion for playing bridge.
Kathryn is survived by a sister, Mary Lou Pardue of Burlington, N.C.; daughters, Lilli Ambro and her husband Darrell Ambro of Greensboro
and Jane Campbell and her husband Paul Hinckley of Hampton, Va.; five grandchildren, Eva Gantt and husband Zan of Greensboro, Shane Ambro of Asheville, Kathryn Campbell of Richmond, Va., and Andrew and Leslie Campbell of Hampton, Va.; also surviving are nieces, nephews, and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Craig Ford and Dr. Bob Nations officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
The family received friends on Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
