Ronald Thomas Cobb
HAW RIVER - Ronald Thomas Cobb, 85, dies Friday, March 24, 2017 with dignity at home with his wife Kay by his side and Cooper at his feet due to complications with bile duct and pancreatic cancer. He was at peace with his fate and wished that others would attempt to be also.
Ronald was a lifelong native of Alamance County who was proud to have been employed by Burlington Industries for over 50 years while also working as a tobacco farmer and fire fighter. He was extremely active and his only regret was not being able to ride his Jet Ski full throttle this summer. He loved being around people from all walks of life. Ronald’s humor and wit served him well and was contagious. His glass was always full and his bountiful optimism uplifted all those that came in contact with him, especially over the past year when he met his illness head on. He enjoyed hard work, hard play, his faith, helping others, sports, classic cars, western movies, time on the lake, an occasional cold beer, but most of all his immediate and extended family.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents Herman and Lucy, brothers Freddy and Ed and by his first wife, Sarah of 56 years. Ronald and Kay June found each other and were married 6 years ago. Kay and her family brought love and joy to Ronald. His family and friends are eternally grateful.
Also surviving are sister Gaynelle Bruner; son Randy, his wife Dianne and granddaughter Madison of Greensboro; grandson Logan, his wife Molly and great granddaughter Parker of Pittsburgh, PA; daughter Cindy Gunther, her husband Al and grandson Trey of Williamsburg, VA; Kay’s family; and special friends Sherrill and Lurlene Hewitt.
Thanks go to Dr. James Abbruzzese and all of the health professionals at Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as hospice of Alamance-Caswell for their dutiful and compassionate care of Ronald.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 3302 North NC Hwy 119, Mebane, NC 27302. A reception will follow in the fellowship Hall. Per Ronald’s request, no ties.
