Mr. Thomas William Whitten
ELON COLLEGE — Mr. Thomas “Tom” William Whitten, 53, of 2058 Ridgedell Drive,
died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at his home.
A native of Houma, La., he was the husband of Mrs. Corrina Guffey Whitten, who
survives, and the son of Mr. Horace Logan Whitten, who survives, and the late Mrs.
Marie Clark Whitten. He was employed by Carolina Biological Supply for 27 years and
was a graduate of Louisiana State University with a bachelor of science degree in zoology.
He was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of the home include a daughter, Ms.
Lindy Katherin-Marie Whitten of the home; a stepson, Mr. Derek Gordon Godwin of
Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and a brother, Mr. Richard Horace Whitten of Costa Rica.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel
by Dr. William C. Simpson Jr., senior pastor of First United Methodist Church, and Dr.
G. Robert McKenzie, pastor emeritus.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 this evening, and at other times at
the home.
