Boyd A. Routh
BURLINGTON — Boyd Augburn Routh, 92, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at Alamance Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Alamance County and was the husband of 13 years to Erma Wolf Jones Routh, who survives.
Boyd was the owner and operator of Boyd Routh Construction, a former employee with Glen Raven Mills and, years ago, worked with his father in their saw mill where he used the lumber to build his and Evelyn’s home. He was a charter member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, a deacon, song leader, sang with the New Hope Trio and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Erma, include his daughters, Sherry Routh Jones and Patty Routh Harrington and husband Stacy; son, Joey Allan Routh and wife Patricia; grandchildren, Ashley Scarlett, Heather Cox, America Jones-Wilson, Andrew Routh and Shannon Routh; great-grandchildren, Abigail Jones, Kasem Scarlett, Addison Scarlett and Kendal Scarlett; stepchildren, Dennis Jones, Stephen Jones and Sylvia Kay Barber; eight stepgrandchildren and 12 greatstepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Hayes Routh; parents; grandson, Jamie Jones; one brother and two sisters.
The celebration of Boyd’s life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy Hobbs with burial to follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015, at New Hope Baptist Church and at other times at the home.
