 ELON — James Marvin Patterson, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, at ARMC.
 
 He was a native of Alamance County and the husband of 56 years to Judy Bowland Patterson, who survives.
 
 Marvin was a tobacco farmer most of his life and he worked with Kayser-Roth Hosiery and retired from Brown Wooten Mills. He was a longtime member of Bethlehem Christian Church and the church choir, receiving Senior Citizen of the Year in 2015. He served over the years as a Deacon as well as Sunday School Superintendent and was active in the Layman’s Fellowship. Marvin was a member of the A-O Civitan Club where he was in charge of the charity golf tournament each year. He was awarded Civitan of the Year in 2014. Marvin was an avid supporter of Western Alamance Athletics. He enjoyed playing golf and softball during his lifetime and was a proud member of the “Corn Pickers”.
 
 Survivors include his wife, Judy Bowland Patterson, of the home; daughter, Donna Patterson Coleman and husband Bryan of Elon; grandson, Ethan Coleman; a brother, Clark Patterson and wife Lila of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
 He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Marion and Elida Belle Garrison Patterson; brother, Gordon Marion Patterson; and infant twin sisters.
 
 A service to celebrate his life will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Todd Felkel and the Rev. Dave Gilbert with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service and the family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times at the home.
