Obituary

John Samuel Hall
Kernersville, NC

John Samuel Hall Jr. lost his battle to cancer on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, in the care of Hospice in Winston Salem. John was born August 1,1943, in Los Angeles, CA. His younger years were spent with his grandmother in Emporia, VA, but he later moved to LA to live with his father when he was 14. He dropped out of high school at 16 and joined the Air Force at 17 in Nov, 1960, and was honorably discharged in 1964.

He attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN, earned his BA in 1970, his MBA in 1972 and the State of GA CPA Certification in 1974. He worked for Haskins and Sells (now Deloitte and Touche) before interviewing with Meridian Engineering and moving to St Croix, USVI in 1976. In 1983 he joined Riggers and Erectors, later IMC (International Maintenance Corp.), and as VP, was in charge of labor relations and hundreds of employees at Hess Oil, at that time the largest refinery in the free world. He met his wife, Lynda, in 1986, and from 1990 until his death in 2012, they were inseparable. They sold their waterfront restaurant, The Serendipity, and left St Croix in 1996, bought a plastics and metals fabrication company and moved to Greensboro, NC. He had just joined Coldwell Banker Triad as a Realtor when he was diagnosed with lung cancer in December, 2010.

Johnny was always the most loving husband and best friend to Lynda, a genuine father to his step-daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Michael Hitt, and the utmost doting grandfather to Sara Westra and Brandon Hitt; other family members include brother Bill Nunnally of Valrico, FL, nieces Kyle and Katie, grand nieces and nephews Kayle, Logan, Alex, and Landen, cousins Virginia Whitaker and Jean Profitt of VA, brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Cindi Khanlarian, and nephews James and Shane of Greensboro.

He was loved by so many and will be missed by so many more; stories about his wit, humor, goodness and friendship will be circulating for years to come.

Visitation will be at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home at 515 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC, 27401, from 6-8 pm Sunday, April 1, 2012; the funeral service will be held at West Market Street Methodist Church in the Chapel, Greensboro, NC, on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 11 am. Interment will be at Westminster Gardens in Greensboro immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to "Hospice, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC, 27103."
