Mrs. Mary Underwood Mitchell
BURLINGTON — Mrs. Mary Underwood Mitchell, 75, of 2185 Canterbury Drive, died at noon Monday, March 12, 2001, at her home after three and a half years of failing health, one week critical.
A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of the late Mr. Clyde Lee Mitchell Sr., and the daughter of Mr. John Wesley Underwood and Mrs. Murkdeese Apple Underwood, both deceased.
She was a homemaker and a member of Low’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Winchester of Burlington, Mrs. Joyce (Arthur) Fogleman and Mrs. Norma (Billy) Clapp, both of Liberty; two sons, Mr. Robert D. (Rose) Mitchell and Mr. Clyde Lee (Teresa) Mitchell II, both of Gibsonville; two sisters, Miss Willie Underwood of Burlington and Mrs. Bobbie Underwood King of Gibsonville; three brothers, Mr. Woodrow Underwood of Gibsonville, Mr. Robert Underwood of Burlington and Mr. Charlie Underwood of Browns Summit; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Florence Flynt, Mrs. Nita Summers, Miss Alma Underwood and Miss Nancy Underwood; and two brothers, Mr. J. D. Underwood and Mr. James Franklin Underwood.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Low’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Brian Ballard, pastor. Burial will be in Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, P.O.
