OBITUARIES John  W. Hoffman 

    BATAVIA, Ill. — John  W. Hoffman , 46, of Batavia, Ill., passed away peacefully on January 19, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. John  is now in the presence of God and reunited with his late father.
    John  was born November 25, 1958 in Burlington, North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in metallurgical engineering. John  married Cristi Johnson on August 11, 1991 in Wheaton, Ill.
    John’s  life touched many people. He will be remembered for his unparalleled drive, vision, dedication to his family and engaging sense of humor. John  founded Designed Alloys Inc. in 1993. The company, based in Aurora, has become a leader in the metals industry. Designed Alloys serves customers internationally from locations in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Oklahoma and North Carolina. John  was a leader who was passionate about life, and inspired others with his dynamic personality. He was committed to building a lasting organization, where his vision will be carried forward successfully.
    John  was a member of the Valley Industrial Association, Investment Casting Industry, American Foundrymens’ Society, American Society for Metals International, among others.
    John  is survived by his loving wife, Cristi; beloved daughters, Kelly and Heidi; dear mother, Gloria Anne Hoffman  of Burlington, N.C.; brothers, Kent (Nora) Hoffman  of Raleigh, N.C. and Tim (Cathy) Hoffman  of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; sisters, Ellyn (Phil) Williams of Boone, N.C. and Emily (David) Hinshaw of Greensboro, N.C. and many nieces and nephews.
    John  will also be remembered by the many special friends and neighbors who provided wonderful support, friendship, and loving gestures for John  and his family during his year-long illness.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Wentworth Hoffman .
    A memorial service honoring John Hoffman  will be held on January 29, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2306 Lacy St., Burlington, N.C. 27215.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 950 Hart Road, Batavia, Ill. 60510.
