BURLINGTON — Mrs. Gloria  R. Hoffman , 79, of 3751 Hoffman  Place, Burlington, after several weeks of declining health, died at 7 a.m., Monday, January 2, 2006, at Woodland Terrace, Cary, N.C.

Born and raised in York, Nebraska, she was the wife of Howard W. Hoffman , and daughter of Henry and Elfie Rich, all deceased.

Gloria  met her husband, Howard, at a USO dance in York. She married in 1948, and moved to the St. Mark’s community in Burlington, where Gloria  and Howard built their home, raised their family, and lived for over 50 years.
Gloria  was a school teacher, a homemaker, and secretary. While working for the Red Cross, she made emergency connections for hundreds of families to their soldiers during the Vietnam War. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 40 years.
Gloria  loved her home, her gardens, and loved to cook. She loved her friends in the community, friends at church, and of course her family in North Carolina and Nebraska. She was generous with her time for family, friends, and her church. She loved to share her garden produce, meals, and her laughter.

She was preceded in death by husband, Howard W. Hoffman ; son, John W. Hoffman ; and brother, Vernon Rich.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ellyn H. Williams (Phil) of Boone and Mrs. Emily H. Hinshaw (David) of Greensboro; two sons, Mr. Kent H. Hoffman  (Nora Ellen) of Raleigh and Mr. Timothy A. Hoffman  (Cathy) of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; daughter-inlaw, Cristi Hoffman  of Batavia, Ill.; one brother, Dean F.
