Mitchell Lee Croft, QMCS (U.S. Navy, ret.), 58, of Whispering Pines, passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at his home, from complications of a traumatic brain injury.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Cox Memorial Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Archie Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery, in Aberdeen. A celebration of life will be held immediately following the burial at the VFW in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Cox Memorial Funeral Home, Vass.
QMCS Croft was born April 22, 1953, in Buffalo, N.Y., and retired from a 27-year career as a U.S. Navy SEAL instructor. He was an avid black powder hunter and the U.S. Navy "Leap Frog" Guinness Book world record holder.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Katherine Lynn Croft; a daughter, Shelby Lynn Croft ; his parents, Betty and Edward Croft, of Puyallup, Wash.; two brothers, his twin, Michael Croft, and David Croft, both of Washington; one sister, Debra Luhtala, of Washington; a large, loving family; and a host of friends.
