Joel Johnson Huffman Sr.
GIBSONVILLE — Mr. Joel Johnson Huffman Sr., age 86, of 113 N.C. Hwy. 100, died Wednesday, July 7, 2011 at UNC Hospital after a sudden illness.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Joel Patterson Huffman and the late Pearl Johnson Huffman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a self-employed carpenter and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Mr. Huffman is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Walker and her husband John, of Gibsonville and Gina McCain of Saginaw, Texas; a son, Joel J. Huffman Jr. of Margate, Fla.; five grandchildren, Tim Walker, Janna Smith, Michael Cox, ColeMcCainandLukeMcCain; four great-grandchildren, Erin Walker, Kristen Walker, Ella Smith and Aniston Smith; one great-grandson, Jeziah Neu; a stepdaughter, Gwen Luce, her husband Larry, and her sons, David and Anthony Favara, all of Arlington, Texas; and a brother, Stanton Vance Huffman of Beaver Dam, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Luena Diane Huffman and Carol Cox; a sister, Luena Huffman Ball; and a brother, Arlendeo Patterson Huffman.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Springwood Presbyterian Church by Mrs. Cynthia Ingle, CLP. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the committal service.
